CHÂTEAU DU CÈDRE
Château du Cèdre, in the heart of the Cahors appellation, must be regarded as the region’s leading light; the refined Malbec grape reaches new heights here. Deep, dark and elegant, Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe’s wines reveal the superb terroir of the estate.

Revue Art de Vivre November 2013, by Olivier Cao
“The Château du Cèdre is the most emblematic wine estate of the Cahors region and the proudest defender of the Malbec grape in France and abroad. There is a reason for this. The estate always gave a good example to the entire appellation, even more in recent history, as it has become a mecca for modern wine culture, using the latest techniques in both vineyard and cellar. Frequently copied, but never equalled.”
Château du Cèdre 2010 - a competitor that honours every table
Cassis, pepper, anise. This wine gives the experience to your taste buds to swim in an ocean of prunes and cacao, breathing fresh air full of perfectly balanced smells of mint and pimentos.
Le Cèdre 2010 - sovereign, emancipated, free
Sour cherries and pimentos from Espelette caper on the palate, while black berries and Criste marine occupy the nose. Well-structured final, slightly woody, with smells of leather, roast aromas and sultanas.
GC 2010 - a wine that yearns for high gastronomy
The first impression is about power and concentration. Sensational tannins, wrapped in wild, dark berries, govern every single taste bud with balsamico and roast aromas, while the nose appreciates hints of leather and coffee. Though a little intimidating the finale surely does not lack elegance. A gigantic perfume of spices, blueberries, star anise and wild pepper is kept together by feminine fragrances of red currant and tobacco.
Vinum Germany December 2013 : Chapter one
45 wines tasted, 40 wines selected, only 1 wine with 18 points, 6 wines with 17 points…
GC 2010 - drink from 2018 till 2026 (18/20)
Even if it looks similar at the first glance to the cuvee Le Cèdre, the other top wine from this famous producer, it differs by its particular harmony and style: a more complex flavour, its impressive elegance, its stunning, crystal-clear fruitiness, the class of its tannins and its superb freshness.
Le Cèdre 2010 – drink from 2016 till 2026 (17/20)
Tremendously complex, smoky bouquet. Of perfect and harmonious, as well as dense and juicy structure. Long, very long fresh final. Gorgeous wine, ready to savour now due to its cherry accents and great style. But it will age well for a long time. This evokes memories of the Toscana.
Chinas most important wine paper, the Revue du Vin de France, awarded the Cuvée Le Cèdre 2006 Cahors from Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe as „best wine in the world".
„ Already in the January issue of the Chinese Revue du Vin de France, the most important wine paper of the country, the cuvee Le Cèdre 2006 has been elected “best Malbec wine distributed in China”, Pascal Verhaeghe gladly explains . “We are ahead of the Argentineans, and we are very proud of that.”
But as happiness rarely comes alone! The same wine has been elected “best wine in the world” amongst hundreds of white and red wines after another tasting organized by the same newspaper.
“ A complex and very harmonious wine, with great length and extraordinary ageing potential.”

"What’s left to say about Gascon white wine blends that hasn’t been said since the first ones appeared in the 2008 $10 Hall of Fame? The same things I’ve been writing all along — cheap, well-made, food-friendly, and tasty. Can’t get too much of a $10 good thing, can we?
The Cedrus ($10, purchased, 11.5%) is more Gascon cheap white wine excellence, Colombard and ugni blanc blended together to make a crisp, citrusy wine with the region’s trademark white grapiness and that is clean and delicious. And all for the same price as one of those incredibly dull, all too fruity grocery store red wines that California insists that we drink.
One of these days, I’ll do a Gascon tasteoff, and see which one is the best of the best. Until then, enjoy this abundance — and think about keeping a bottle or two around for the holidays. It’s a terrific wine if anyone stops by, if all you want is something to drink with Chinese takeout, or just feel like a glass after work."
The 2011 vintage was very contrasted and untypical, similar to 1990, with a very sunny spring, almost blistering, and a rainy summer, which slowed down the impressive headstart in the vine’s ripeness. Some nice weather in September permitted to harvest healthy and balanced grapes in early October. After careful vinification and two years of ripening in oak casks, concrete tanks and bottles, we are proud to present the wines of the 2011 vintage.
Château du Cèdre Cahors 2011
Rich and spicy, with charming generosity. While sour cherry, laurel and black olives predominate the nose, the wine tastes medium-bodied and round on the palate, with smooth tannins and crispy acidity.
Le Cèdre Cahors 2011
Both powerful and elegant, with hints of smoke, tobacco and sweet spices, like cinnamon and star anise, and lots of ripe, black fruit. Great tannin structure, dense and delicious, wrapped into mellowness and carried by straight, mineral acidity. Impressively balanced, velvety and persistent…
“Straight and tasteful, a great homage to the definition of wine! Tight and savoury, you can’t but admire its slender fullness, fine structure and elegance. Exceptional wine.”
La Revue du vin de France, June 2012
GC Cahors 2011
Astonishing like always, the GC assembles a great diversity of fragrances with ease: minerality and white pepper, black fruits and camphor, roast aromas and violet. Powerful but not intrusive, the nose already offers high tasting pleasure, promising an interesting development for the years to come. On the palate it’s majestic, generous and tasty, with savoury and spicy tannins and a hint of “saltiness”, conferring a surprising airiness to the wine. A wine to follow for many years…
After our certification for organic farming in 2012, we are happy and proud to announce that the entire Le Cèdre Diffusion Company has been certified ISO 22000.
“First the certification for organic wine making in both vineyard and cellar, than the setup of HACCP based quality control and finally ISO 22000 certification… We made great strides in the last years. But it all goes even further back until the nineties, when we abandoned pesticides in the vineyards, integrating environment friendly farming. And our effort has been worthwhile. Who doesn’t want to work in a healthier and more secure environment? What’s more, the wines and the vineyards look better and more balanced every year!”
Olivier Teisseire – Cellar manager, responsible for quality control
Hazard analysis and critical control points, or HACCP, is a systematic preventive approach to food safety and biological hazards in production processes. Moreover, it’s efficient an procedure to audit and to improve the entire production process. Always up to date, HACCP follows all changes and evolution of our wine growing and wine making to guarantee permanent food safety.
ISO 22000 is an international standard for Food Safety Management Systems, that can be applied to any organization in the food chain, farm to fork. Becoming certified to the ISO 22000 lets a company show their customers that they have a food safety management system in place. ISO 22000 aims to guarantee food safety and assimilates international food hygiene standards.
Setting up an HACCP plan for the ISO 22000 certification gave us the opportunity to screen the entire organization of our winery, regarding safety and risk factors for both our costumers and employees. The latter have welcomed our decisions and were very involved with the project. Every task of the winery has been revised, pointing out the responsibilities of everyone. That’s a very important factor for successful team work.”
Jean-Marc Verhaeghe – Vigneron
“ We want to display transparency about our wine production. The ISO 22000 certification is a commitment to quality, as much as the certification for organic farming. More than just trophies that will be exposed at the winery, these are promises towards our costumers and partners that will be regularly checked by independent organizations. At our website we display for example how many years you may keep each of our cuvees under correct storage conditions. The combination of Malbec and our terroir enables us to produce great wines with extraordinary ageing potential.
And we perfectly stand by this!”
Pascal Verhaeghe – Vigneron
“Our rating with 4 DB stands for high-quality wine estates, that contribute to the fame and glory of French wines”
“The Château du Cèdre resides at the top of the Cahors appellation for more than 15 years, thanks to the ambitious work in the vineyard under Jean-Marc’s direction and the sophisticated wine making of Pascal. Assistance comes from their terroir, one of the high-quality spots for wine making of the region.”
Le Cèdre 2011 17/20
Generous, tense, with a complex tannin structure, it perfectly stands comparison with great wines from the Libournais.
